Before You Turn on the Heat . . .

As summer winds down and cooler temperatures arrive, many of us will soon close the windows and turn our heating systems back on. But before you flip that switch, have you thought about what may be hiding inside your ductwork?

Over the warmer months, dust, debris, allergens, pet dander and other contaminants can accumulate within HVAC systems and ductwork. Once your heating system begins running regularly, air moves through those same ducts and throughout your indoor environment.

Fall is a great time to give your HVAC system a little attention.

Start by checking or replacing your HVAC filters and looking for visible dust or debris around vents and registers. If it has been a while since your ductwork was inspected—especially in a school, church, office, commercial building or other high-occupancy facility—consider having the system professionally evaluated.

An HVAC duct inspection can help identify what is actually inside your system so you can make an informed decision about whether cleaning is necessary.
